FAQ's

1. What’s the difference between LR, MR, and HR licences?
  • LR (Light Rigid): Up to 8 tonnes GVM, 1 axle
  • MR (Medium Rigid): Over 8 tonnes GVM, 2 axles
  • HR (Heavy Rigid): Over 8 tonnes GVM, 3 or more axles

An MR licence also allows you to drive LR vehicles and cars. Mega Truck Training offers MR and HR courses.

2. What if I fail the MR driving test?

You can rebook the test after a short wait. Extra training is available if needed. More practice usually leads to better results, don’t give up.

3. What does the "Condition B" restriction mean, and does it affect job options?

“Condition B” limits you to automatic or synchromesh gearboxes. Most MR trucks use these, so it rarely affects job prospects. However, if an employer uses crash gearboxes, you’ll need to upgrade your licence by training on one.

4. What are Chain of Responsibility (CoR) laws, and why do they matter?

CoR laws make all parties in the transport chain legally responsible for safety (e.g., avoiding fatigue, speeding, or overloading). Good MR training should include CoR basics, it’s essential for your legal protection and professional conduct.

5. Do I need truck driving experience to get an MR licence?

No experience needed, just a C-class licence held for at least 1 year. Courses are beginner-friendly and cover all the basics, including reversing, hill starts, and proper mirror use. Most learners need around 6–8 hours of training.

6. What if I need extra support during the course?

If you need extra support, whether it’s been a while since you last studied, English isn’t your first language, or you need help with literacy or numeracy, we’re here to assist. During the application and enrolment process, we’ll identify any additional support needs and work with you to provide appropriate assistance. Our aim is to create a supportive learning environment that gives every student a fair chance to succeed.
