FAQ's

1. What is an HC (Heavy Combination) Licence and who needs it?

An HC licence lets you drive prime movers with a single semi-trailer or rigid trucks towing trailers over 9,000 kg GVM. It’s essential for jobs in freight, construction, logistics, and agriculture.

2. How long does HC Licence training take?

Training usually takes 10–12 hours over 2–3 days. It depends on your experience and the type of gearbox (auto or manual). Extra training and weekend options are available.

3. What’s the difference between automatic and manual (road ranger) HC licence training?

An automatic licence limits you to auto-only vehicles. A manual (road ranger) licence lets you drive all HC vehicles. Manual training is harder due to gear techniques. Auto is better for beginners.

4. What job opportunities come with an HC licence in Perth?

You can drive semi-trailers, freight trucks, or heavy haulage vehicles. Jobs are available in transport, logistics, and mining, with FIFO roles paying $40–$55/hour. Some roles may need extra tickets or experience.

5. What’s the difference between HC and MC licences, and how do I move to MC?

HC is for one trailer; MC covers multi-trailer vehicles like B-doubles and road trains. You need to hold an HC licence for 12 months before training for MC. Some advanced paths allow earlier progression based on logged hours.

6. What jobs can I get with an HR Licence in Perth?

An HR Licence qualifies you for roles such as truck driver, delivery driver, bus driver, mining transport operator, and construction vehicle operator. Some positions, especially in mining and construction, may require experience with manual gearboxes or specific vehicle types, so choosing the right HR Licence type is important for your career goals.

7. What if I need extra support during the course?

If you need extra support, whether it’s been a while since you last studied, English isn’t your first language, or you need help with literacy or numeracy, we’re here to assist. During the application and enrolment process, we’ll identify any additional support needs and work with you to provide appropriate assistance. Our aim is to create a supportive learning environment that gives every student a fair chance to succeed.
