FAQ’s
1. What is an HR (Heavy Rigid) Licence and who needs it?
An HR licence lets you drive heavy vehicles with 3 or more axles and over 8,000 kg GVM, like trucks, buses, and some construction vehicles. It’s ideal for careers in transport, logistics, construction, and mining.
2. How long does HR Licence training take?
Training usually takes 1 to 3 days. It depends on your driving experience and gearbox type. Beginners may need more time. Weekend and flexible course options are available.
3. What types of HR Licences are there?
- HR-A: Automatic only
- HR-B: Automatic + Synchromesh manual
- HR Open: All gearboxes, including Roadranger
Manual licences give you more job options, especially in mining and heavy transport.
4. Can I upgrade to HR from MR or a car licence?
Yes. You can upgrade from an MR licence or straight from a car (C-class) licence if you’ve held it for at least 12 months.
5. What if I fail the HR Licence test?
You can retake it after a short wait. There’s no limit on attempts, but each retest costs extra. Extra lessons and proper prep improve your chances.
6. What if I need extra support during the course?
If you need extra support, whether it’s been a while since you last studied, English isn’t your first language, or you need help with literacy or numeracy, we’re here to assist. During the application and enrolment process, we’ll identify any additional support needs and work with you to provide appropriate assistance. Our aim is to create a supportive learning environment that gives every student a fair chance to succeed.
